Operation of Machine
1. Introduction
The 16913 Case Packer with Palletizer was designed and manufactured by Bector Automation RML Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. for Strides Pharma Science Limited.
The system consists of a rotary table to receive cartons from the upstream machine. The rotary table orients the cartons and transfers them onto the infeed conveyor. The infeed conveyor is equipped with photoelectric sensors to detect carton presence and ensure smooth transfer to the collation unit.
At the infeed conveyor, cartons are pre-arranged into SKU-specific rows. These rows are then transferred to the collation unit, where a box puller mechanism is mounted. The mechanism, operated using pneumatics, pulls each row sequentially and positions it accurately to form the required matrix. This process continues until the complete SKU matrix is formed.
Parallel to the collation unit, the case erector assembly is used to form the shipper. The magazine and picture frame assembly hold the flat shippers, which are loaded manually. The shipper is picked from the magazine using a plucker mechanism and transferred to the erection station. The shipper is then opened and formed, and flap folding is carried out using pneumatic cylinders.
Once the matrix is ready and the shipper is in position, the pick-and-place operation is carried out using an ABB IRB 4600 robot. The robot picks the carton matrix from the collation unit and places it into the erected shipper.
After loading, the shipper is pushed forward using a linear pusher mechanism to the taping machine. The taping machine performs top and bottom sealing of the shipper.
After taping, the shipper is conveyed to the labelling conveyor. Photoelectric sensors are used to detect the presence of the shipper. A label is applied using a pre-print label applicator system, and the shipper is verified as required.
The sealed and labelled shipper is then conveyed to the palletizing section. The same ABB IRB 4600 robot picks the shipper and places it onto the pallet using a predefined pallet pattern. A pallet locator is used to ensure accurate positioning during palletizing.
Filled pallets are removed manually, and empty pallets are placed manually. Photoelectric sensors are used to detect pallet presence and ensure proper operation.
