1. Introduction

16797 Robotic Pick-and-Place System for Cheese
Designed & Manufactured by Bector Automation RML Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. for D’Lecta Foods Pvt. Ltd.

The 16797 Robotic Pick and Place System for Cheese is a fully automated, high-speed robotic solution engineered for the precise handling, orientation, and placement of unpacked (naked) cheese products into Multivac thermoforming packaging cavities. Developed for D’Lecta Foods Pvt. Ltd., this system integrates advanced robotics, machine vision, synchronized conveying, and quality-inspection modules to ensure efficient and contamination-free cheese handling suitable for modern food-grade production environments.

The process begins with two independent infeed conveyors that receive cheese products from multiple upstream machines.
The system handles inputs from the following sources:

  • Weber Slicer Machine (Flat Conveyor):
Transfers sliced cheddar and other cheese types to Infeed Conveyor-1

  • Feta Cheese Cutter Machine :
Supplies Feta cubes to Infeed Conveyor-2

  • Parmesan Slab Cutter :
Parmesan pieces manually loaded onto Infeed Conveyor-1

  • Customer-Scope Checkweigher System:
Rejects under-weight or over-weight cheese portions before they enter the main process

All accepted products are transferred to the main drive conveyor, where they pass through a dedicated vision tunnel equipped with a Sentech STC-MBS202POE industrial camera. This system verifies orientation and product correctness. Only validated products are marked as “pick-ready,” while improperly oriented products are automatically rejected to the bin provided at the end of the conveyor.

Correctly verified cheese portions are precisely picked by a high-speed Omron Quattro 650H delta robot, using a hygienic food-grade pick head. The Multivac machine provides a cavity-presence signal, enabling the robot to place the cheese only into available cavities. After all present cavities are filled, the Multivac indexes the film forward.

In the final handling stage, products pass under a roller-pusher mechanism, followed by a height-verification sensor that confirms whether the placed cheese is within the height limits specified by the customer. If the height is within tolerance, the product proceeds toward sealing; otherwise, the system generates an alarm and halts downstream movement.

This project demonstrates seamless integration of robotics (Omron Quattro 650H), industrial vision (Sentech STC-MBS202POE), multi-source product handling, weight inspection, and precision automated placement, delivering a robust, reliable, and hygienic cheese packaging automation solution.
